Bhubaneswar, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Odisha Sports and Youth Services Department has issued a show-cause notice to the Odisha Cricket Association, requesting an explanation regarding the disruptions that occurred during the international cricket match between India and England, held at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on February 9, due to a floodlight malfunction.

The Director of Sports, Siddhartha Das, sent a letter to the Honorary Secretary of the OCA, demanding a comprehensive response within 10 days.

In the show-cause letter, Das noted that during the 2nd One Day International (ODI) match, a floodlight unexpectedly went out, which resulted in a disruption of the game.

This incident led to a suspension of play for approximately 30 minutes, causing significant inconvenience for both players and fans.

"The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) is required to provide a thorough explanation for the cause of the disruption, identify those responsible for the lapses, and outline measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The findings must be submitted within 10 days of receiving this letter," stated the Odisha Sports Department.

Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj informed the media that a formal explanation has been requested from the OCA, and actions will be initiated against those accountable for the undue delay in rectifying the technical issues that arose during the match.

Meanwhile, senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Lenin Mohanty called for the resignation of the sports minister on ethical grounds due to the mismanagement that occurred during the international match.

The BJD has also demanded strict measures against individuals found culpable for the incident.

It is worth mentioning that the disruption occurred during the seventh over of India's innings when Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were batting during the ODI match.

The floodlights flickered in the sixth over and completely failed in the seventh over.

In response, OCA officials stated that a generator at the stadium malfunctioned, leading to the temporary floodlight failure.

The official explained that replacing the faulty generator took time due to the delayed arrival of the backup generator.
