Cuttack, Feb 10 (NationPress) The government of Odisha has requested a comprehensive explanation from the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) regarding a floodlight malfunction at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, which resulted in a 35-minute interruption during the second ODI between India and England on Sunday.

The issue occurred in the seventh over of India’s innings when one of the six floodlight towers began to flicker before failing completely. With India at 48 for no loss, captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill retreated to the dugout, along with the England players, as the game was abruptly halted.

“This incident resulted in approximately 30 minutes of match suspension, causing inconvenience to both players and spectators. The OCA is hereby instructed to provide a detailed explanation regarding the cause of the disruption, identify the individuals or agencies responsible for such lapses, and outline the measures taken to avert similar incidents in the future,” read the letter issued on February 10 by the Odisha sports department.

The malfunction was reportedly due to a generator failure associated with one of the floodlight towers. The Odisha sports department has now demanded a thorough report from the OCA, detailing the reasons behind the disruption, identifying those accountable, and listing steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The incident has raised concerns about OCA’s ability to host high-profile events, especially since this was the first international match at Barabati in six years.
