Bhubaneswar, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Odisha government has entrusted the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sambalpur, with the responsibility of crafting the state's inaugural bio-economy report.
This report aims to evaluate significant strengths, obstacles, and opportunities for growth within the sector. According to an official statement from the Odisha government, biotechnology holds immense potential for bolstering the state’s economic trajectory through the development of a bio-economy, unlocking all avenues in this sector.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalized at Kharvel Bhawan on Thursday, between the Odisha Science & Technology Department and IIM Sambalpur, to facilitate the preparation of this report.
The MoU was executed by Additional Secretary of the Department Puja Mishra and IIM Director Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, with the presence of Science & Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra and Principal Secretary Chithra Arumugam.
The comprehensive report, being developed by IIM Sambalpur, is set to serve as a strategic framework, providing policy recommendations, sector-specific priorities, and actionable initiatives designed to position Odisha as a leader in India's burgeoning bio-economy.
This report is anticipated to pinpoint the state's key strengths, tackle significant challenges, and delineate sustainable pathways for innovation, investment, and inclusive growth in this essential field.
The state government envisions that this report will act as a benchmark for future bio-industries.
“This report will deliver a strategic roadmap, ensuring that the state's bioeconomic initiatives are in line with national and global best practices, while cultivating a robust bioeconomy ecosystem. In attendance were Additional Secretary of the Science & Technology Department Sibani Mohanty, Urmiprava Moharana, Bidyut Prava Rout, IIM faculty R.K. Padhi, and Sandip Mukhopadhaya.
