Bhubaneswar, Oct 14 (NationPress) The Odisha Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rama Chandra Kadam on Tuesday called for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the demise of Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar. He insisted on the immediate arrest and investigation of those mentioned in the officer's final note.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Kadam conveyed to reporters that the nine-page suicide note, penned on October 7, allegedly implicates senior officials, including the Director General of Haryana Police, and points to caste-based harassment. These revelations highlight serious misconduct that necessitates a central agency's investigation.
Kadam charged the Haryana administration with fostering an environment where a Dalit officer seeking justice felt forced to take his life. He emphasized the need for the family to receive full protection and prompt legal assistance.
“This tragedy deeply distresses me. If senior officials are implicated in the note, they should face suspension, arrest, and investigation by the CBI. The bereaved family deserves justice, and Dalit officers who speak out need to be safeguarded,” Kadam remarked.
He added that this situation exemplifies systemic injustice and urged the Central and relevant authorities to act swiftly to restore public trust in the system.
The Congress party noted that the late IPS officer was from a Scheduled Caste and had been a strong advocate for fair representation and reservation for officers from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in recruitment and promotions.
The party accused the Haryana Police of inaction despite an FIR filed by Kumar’s wife, emphasizing the caste-based mentality of the Haryana government.
Interestingly, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the family of Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar on Tuesday and called for immediate action concerning the allegations raised in the purported suicide note.
Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer stationed in Haryana, was discovered dead at his official residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh. Initial reports suggest he died by suicide using his service weapon, with a suicide note allegedly authored by Kumar naming approximately 14 senior officials, accusing them of mental harassment and caste-based discrimination.
