Bhubaneswar, Sep 19 (NationPress) In a significant appeal, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rama Chandra Kadam has called upon Speaker Surama Padhy to take urgent measures for the recovery of various items allegedly taken by 'anti-socials' from Congress MLAs during a chaotic incident in the Odisha Assembly. This turmoil erupted in the early hours following the suspension of 12 party legislators in the last session held in March this year.
Kadam, in his letter to Padhy, highlighted the disorder that unfolded on March 26, 2025 at approximately 2:30 a.m. within the Assembly.
“What actions have been undertaken regarding the intrusion of anti-social elements and the theft of items such as a gold chain, watch, goggles, pants, shirts, and other possessions belonging to our Congress Legislature Party members? To this date, none of our belongings have been returned to us by your office,” Kadam queried.
Additionally, he urged the Speaker to take decisive steps to reclaim the stolen property of the Congress leaders.
“I therefore implore you to act swiftly to ensure the recovery of our stolen items,” Kadam emphasized.
It is crucial to note the exceptional disorder that transpired both within and outside the Assembly after the suspension of the 12 Congress lawmakers, who were disrupting proceedings by playing traditional musical instruments and blowing whistles on March 25.
Despite their suspension, the Congress legislators remained in the Assembly, staging a sit-in protest, demanding the establishment of a committee to probe the increasing incidents of violence against women.
Subsequently, Assembly security personnel forcibly removed the suspended Congress leaders from the Assembly on March 26.
The Congress representatives have since claimed that they were assaulted and that their personal belongings were taken during their forceful removal in the early hours of March 26.
