Odisha: Three Arrested Including GGM of Central Government PSU Over Corruption Allegations

Bhubaneswar, Dec 8 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained three individuals, including a Group General Manager (GGM) of Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Limited, a central government public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, over allegations of issuing unlawful work orders and processing bills in exchange for illegal benefits.
The individual identified as Chanchal Mukherjee serves as the GGM of M/s Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Limited.
Additionally, the two other individuals apprehended include Santosh Moharana, the Director of Penta A Studio Private Limited based in Bhubaneswar, and the alleged intermediary, Debadutta Mohapatra.
The CBI initiated a case on Saturday against the senior public official Chanchal Mukherjee, the private firm and its director Santosh Moharana, the intermediary Debadutta Mohapatra, along with unidentified public and private individuals.
According to CBI officials, Chanchal was engaged in corrupt and unlawful practices by providing work orders and approving bills in exchange for illegal benefits in the form of bribes.
“It was reported that the Director of the aforementioned Private Limited met with the GGM at his office in Bhubaneswar on December 6, 2024, where the GGM requested a cash sum of Rs 10 lakh from the Director, promising to adjust this amount in future billings,” stated the CBI in a press release on Sunday.
Following this information, the CBI set a trap and caught GGM Chanchal in the act of receiving the requested bribe of Rs 10 lakh from Santosh near a well-known hotel in Bhubaneswar late Saturday evening. The authorities apprehended both individuals and confiscated the bribe money of Rs 10 lakh.
The intermediary Debadutta was also arrested for his role as a co-conspirator in facilitating the exchange of illegal benefits.
“Searches are ongoing at eight locations in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and Kolkata (West Bengal), resulting in the seizure of incriminating documents, a vehicle used in the crime, as well as digital devices,” the CBI added in their press release.
As per the latest updates, the Special CBI court has granted the CBI a three-day police custody of the three arrested individuals. They are scheduled to be presented in court again on December 11.
