New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah, emphasized the necessity for a 'strategic shift' within the INDIA Bloc, stressing that without timely action, the alliance's objectives may be compromised.
"Continuing along this divisive path will not bode well for the future of the INDIA Bloc," he remarked.
The NC, led by the father-son duo, plays a crucial role in the INDIA Bloc and has largely maintained a 'neutral' stance regarding the Delhi elections, in contrast to other allies like the Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP), who are actively supporting the AAP while distancing themselves from Congress.
In a press conference, the J&K CM expressed his support for the Kejriwal-led AAP, asserting that it holds a competitive advantage in the crucial contest for the capital.
However, he was cautious and restrained in his predictions about the election outcomes.
"Let the elections take place, and the results will unveil the reality. After that, we will assess the situation. There is a possibility that AAP might emerge victorious in the Delhi Assembly polls once again. Yet, we cannot foresee the future—let's wait and observe," he stated.
Omar Abdullah also addressed the growing discord within the INDIA Bloc, as Congress and AAP, once allies, are now contesting the Delhi elections separately.
He called for unity among the opposition alliance, stating, "I have reiterated this before, and I will do so again: we need to engage in discussions regarding strategy within the INDIA Bloc. If we persist in this manner, it will not benefit the country. Our coalition was formed to challenge the BJP, but we have not been entirely successful. Nevertheless, the number of opposition leaders in Parliament has increased. Continuing down this division will not favor the future of the INDIA Bloc. After the Delhi elections, we will attempt to convene a meeting to discuss these challenges."
He offered a mixed perspective on the Union Budget 2025, recognizing that the proposed income tax relief could assist the middle class, but emphasized that its success hinges on effective implementation.
"Income tax relief is a positive move, and it could aid the middle class. However, the genuine test lies in its execution. If implemented as promised, it will indeed benefit those in need the most," he noted.
With the Delhi Assembly elections rapidly approaching, all 70 seats are set to be contested in a highly competitive battle among AAP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. The fate of 1.56 crore voters will be determined on February 5, and the results could significantly influence the political landscape of the national capital.
