Opposition Initiates No-Confidence Motion Against Rajya Sabha Chairman Dhankhar

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Congress party along with its allies in the Rajya Sabha has taken a significant step by moving a no-confidence motion against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Members of the INDIA bloc formally submitted this proposal to the Secretary General of the upper house on Tuesday.

The opposition claims that the Chairman has been overseeing the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha in a deeply biased manner, compelling them to undertake this extraordinary action.

Members of Congress asserted that such partial management of Rajya Sabha activities jeopardizes the democratic process, which led the INDIA bloc parties to unite in advancing this motion.

The MPs from the opposition who endorsed the motion expressed their disappointment over having to take this action but emphasized its necessity to protect parliamentary democracy. The proposal, which has garnered signatures from around 60 MPs, has been presented under Article 67-B of the Constitution.

Discussing the matter, Congress member Randeep Singh Surjewala criticized the ruling party, accusing it of disrupting parliamentary sessions to evade discussions on crucial matters like corruption, inflation, and unemployment. He stated, "This is a dark chapter in parliamentary history. The government is evading discussions and squandering Parliament's time."

Surjewala pointed out that this is the first time in India's 75-year history where the government is allegedly hindering the functioning of Parliament.

The opposition parties, including Congress, have also voiced concerns regarding discriminatory treatment in the Rajya Sabha. They argue that while the ruling party is permitted to share its perspectives even amid disruptions, the opposition is denied similar opportunities.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari mentioned that the opposition has consistently shown a willingness to engage in discussions but accused the BJP of intentionally suspending the House to avoid tackling urgent issues like unemployment and recent unrest in Sambhal, UP.

The no-confidence motion initiated by the opposition reflects the rising tensions within Parliament, with both factions blaming each other for hindering democratic operations.
