Jammu, Nov 3 (NationPress) A soldier tragically lost his life in the Poonch district of J&K on Monday due to an accidental discharge of his service rifle, as reported by officials.
According to officials, Naik Amarjeet Singh was performing sentry duty at his camp located in the village of Jhulass when the unfortunate incident occurred.
"He was promptly transported to the army’s field hospital for urgent medical care, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his severe injuries. The police are now aware of the situation, and an investigation has been initiated," stated an official.
The Indian Army oversees the protection of the 740-km-long Line of Control (LoC) in J&K, which extends through Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Valley, as well as Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of the Jammu district.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) is responsible for safeguarding the 240-km-long international border that runs through the districts of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua.
The army is actively engaged in anti-infiltration and anti-terrorism operations along the LoC, while the BSF fulfills similar roles along the international boundary.
In addition, the J&K Police and various security forces are involved in counter-terrorism operations in the region, targeting gun-toting terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and supporters.
Law enforcement is also focused on combating drug trafficking, drug distribution, and individuals involved in hawala transactions and other financial frauds.
It is believed that the funds generated from these illegal activities ultimately support terrorism in J&K.
The security forces have adapted their strategy to aim for the dismantling of the entire terror ecosystem in J&K rather than solely pursuing armed terrorists.
So far, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has terminated the employment of numerous government personnel found to have connections to terrorism.
