Jammu, Nov 29 (NationPress) A junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the army tragically succumbed to a heart attack on Saturday in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the army JCO stationed in the Khari area of Poonch passed away after experiencing a heart attack earlier today.
The deceased has been identified as Captain (Ordinary) Talib Hussain, who was currently assigned to a post in Khari, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Poonch in Haveli tehsil.
The officer reportedly suffered a severe heart attack at the post, leading to his immediate demise.
The police are aware of the incident, and an investigation is in progress, as confirmed by officials.
The Jammu and Kashmir region features a 740-km-long line of control (LoC) and a 240-km-long international border.
The LoC is protected by the Army and stretches across the Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara districts of the Valley, and in Poonch, Rajouri, and partially in the Jammu district of the Jammu division.
The international border is safeguarded by the Border Security Force (BSF) and runs through Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts of the Jammu division.
The Army and the BSF work tirelessly to prevent the infiltration of terrorists, tackle cross-border smuggling, and manage drone activities initiated by terror outfits supported by the Pakistan Army.
Additionally, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces are engaged in anti-terrorism operations within the region.
In a revised strategy, police and security forces are focusing on terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), sympathizers, drug traffickers, and individuals involved in hawala money schemes and other illegal financial operations. It is believed that proceeds from these illicit activities ultimately support terrorism in J&K.
This revised approach aims to dismantle the entire support system of terrorism rather than merely targeting armed terrorists.
During security review meetings, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been giving clear directions to security forces to adopt this comprehensive strategy, as the armed terrorists are merely the visible results of a larger anti-national ecosystem that fosters, harbors, and promotes terrorist ideologies among the youth.
