Jammu, April 17 (NationPress) A resident from Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir was apprehended on Thursday in Samba district following the discovery of three incoming calls from Pakistani numbers on his mobile device.
Authorities stated, “Farooq Ahmed, a local of Poonch, was taken into custody in Samba after three Pakistani phone numbers were identified on his phone. He was seen near the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, which raised suspicions and prompted his arrest.”
The Jammu and Kashmir Police are currently examining his affiliations to investigate possible connections to dubious activities, officials noted.
Due to security concerns, no ISD calls from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan are permitted.
A significant ‘seek and destroy’ operation is underway in the districts of Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, and Udhampur within the Jammu division to identify and confront terrorists with joint forces.
Recently, three Pakistani terrorists, including a key commander of the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) group, named Saifullah, were eliminated in a three-day operation in Kishtwar district.
Security personnel assert that terrorists, whether local or foreign, require logistical support from overground workers (OGWs) or sympathizers to operate in remote areas.
Some locals, driven by financial incentives or propaganda, are believed to assist the terrorists. This network is referred to as the terror ecosystem, which encompasses terrorists, OGWs, sympathizers, as well as drug smugglers and dealers, according to officials.
It is noteworthy that on March 23, five Pakistani terrorists were spotted by residents in Sanyal village of Kathua district, located 4 km inside the International Border.
The local police promptly responded to the Sanyal village and engaged the terrorists in a firefight. The terrorists escaped to Safiyan Jakhole village, where they were again confronted by security forces.
During this encounter, two terrorists were killed, while four police officers were martyred, and the Deputy SP (Border) along with three other policemen sustained injuries.
Subsequently, joint security forces initiated an extensive anti-terrorist operation, broadening the search area to the higher terrains of Kathua and Rajouri districts. A brief exchange of gunfire also transpired between the terrorists and the joint forces in the Billawar district of Kathua.
