Jammu, Feb 24 (NationPress) Security forces commenced searches at various sites near the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Poonch district on Monday following intelligence reports concerning suspicious activities, officials stated.
According to officials, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police and personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) worked in coordination to seal off areas including Phamarnar, Kiker Morh, Jabdan Gali, and Harni located in the Gursai, Brella, and Kasbalari regions of Mendhar, along with the Bafliaz forest in Surankote for comprehensive searches.
An official commented, “No contact has been established with the terrorists so far while the searches are ongoing.”
This winter's minimal snowfall has kept all traditional infiltration paths along the LoC in J&K accessible.
Consequently, the army stationed at the LoC, along with police and other security forces in the surrounding areas, are on high alert to prevent any terrorist infiltration.
Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over two top-level security review meetings concerning J&K, issuing explicit directives to the security personnel to achieve zero infiltration and maintain zero tolerance towards terrorists.
Additionally, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha conducted two security meetings, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu, where he instructed the complete dismantling of the terror framework by targeting terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
He noted that drug smuggling, drug peddling, and hawala operations are instrumental in generating funds that ultimately sustain terrorism in J&K.
Intelligence agencies suggest that the terrorist handlers situated across the LoC in Pakistan-occupied areas have grown frustrated due to the peaceful and participative Lok Sabha and Assembly elections held in J&K last year. These terrorist handlers are believed to have instructed their operatives in J&K to revive the declining terrorism in the Union Territory.
