Jammu, July 30 (NationPress) The Army reported on Wednesday that two terrorists were identified near the border fence along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to an ongoing gunfight in the region.
The White Knight Corps, based in Nagrota, shared on X, "Our troops observed the suspected movement of two individuals near the fence in the general area of #Poonch Sector. Gunfire exchanged. Operation is ongoing."
According to reports, the infiltration attempt by the terrorists has been thwarted, and efforts are underway to neutralize the intruders.
This interception comes just two days after the joint forces eliminated all three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in the Srinagar district during Operation Mahadev.
In a coordinated effort, three Pakistani terrorists, including Suleman Shah, the commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), along with his associates Abu Hamza and Jibran Bhai, were killed in the higher reaches of Dachigam National Park, located at the base of the Mahadev Mountain Peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed the Parliament that these three terrorists were responsible for the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local.
He stated that intelligence tracking and eyewitness accounts confirmed the involvement of these three terrorists in the attack.
The attack sparked outrage across the nation, prompting a concerted effort from security forces to bring the responsible parties to justice.
In retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted a free hand to the Armed Forces, who conducted specific strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure at nine locations deep within Pakistan. These strikes included regions such as Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur in the Pakistani mainland, and Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In response, Pakistan engaged in heavy mortar shelling of civilian facilities across various districts in J&K, including Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara.
Following the escalation, the Indian Armed Forces successfully targeted and damaged 11 defense bases of Pakistan until a ceasefire offer from Pakistan was accepted by India, though without suspending Operation Sindoor.
