Jaipur, Oct 11 (NationPress) Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade highlighted the necessity of integrating organ donation education into school curriculums, stressing that early awareness can convert this noble act into a widespread movement across the nation.
Speaking at the annual gathering of the Indian Organ Transplant Society held at the Raj Bhavan, the Governor remarked that organ donation transcends a mere humanitarian gesture; it is “a remarkable gift” with the potential to save numerous lives.
“Each year, millions in our country succumb due to a shortage of organ transplants. To avert these preventable tragedies, we must engage more individuals in the cause of organ donation,” he stated.
Bagade urged educational institutions to weave organ donation awareness into their teaching frameworks, beginning in schools and extending to medical colleges, where future healthcare providers can play a crucial role in advocating for the cause.
He called for organ donation to evolve into a mass movement nationwide. Drawing on Indian traditions, the Governor recounted the tale of Maharishi Dadhichi, who selflessly gave his bones to create the divine weapon Vajra for Lord Indra to vanquish demons.
“Organ donation is deeply embedded in our culture. It reflects our values of compassion and sacrifice,” he remarked.
The Governor also encouraged physicians and healthcare workers to take initiative in promoting organ donation, inspiring others through their actions.
He underscored the significance of preventive healthcare, balanced nutrition, and healthy lifestyles to alleviate the burden of organ-related afflictions.
During the ceremony, he shared inspiring tales of organ donors who bestowed the gift of life upon others, motivating citizens to find inspiration in their altruism.
The event commenced with Governor Bagade lighting a ceremonial lamp, signifying the formal start of the celebration.
Members of the Indian Organ Transplant Society, medical experts, and social advocates participated in this initiative aimed at enhancing awareness regarding organ donation.
