Chennai, Dec 20 (NationPress) A staggering 1,03,812 voters have been eliminated from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's Kolathur constituency, representing one of the most significant cuts during the state-wide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Tamil Nadu. The recently released draft voter list showcases a major cleanup of invalid, duplicated, or outdated entries, indicating a comprehensive effort ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Before the SIR verification, Tamil Nadu had 6,41,14,587 voters as of October 27. After the verification process, the total has dropped to 5,43,76,755, highlighting a remarkable decrease of 97,37,831 names from the rolls. Election officials attribute this decline to the identification of deceased individuals, voters who have migrated, and duplicate registrations.

The updated draft roll now shows 2,77,06,332 women, 2,66,63,233 men, 7,191 transgender voters, and 4,19,355 voters with disabilities in the registry.

According to the SIR breakdown, 26,94,672 entries were removed due to deaths, 66,44,881 due to migration, and 3,39,278 were identified as duplicates. Officials have stated that enhanced verification measures, including digital cross-checking and field verification, contributed to the high volume of deletions.

Kolathur, traditionally viewed as a bastion for the Chief Minister, experienced a reduction of 35.71 percent in its previous voter count, leaving 1,86,841 registered voters in the newly issued draft list.

This revision also had a notable impact on key political figures' constituencies. In the Edappadi constituency, led by AIADMK general secretary and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, 26,375 voters were removed, reducing the total to 2,67,374 voters.

The Chepauk-Triplicane constituency, represented by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, saw 89,241 deletions, bringing the count down from 2,40,087 to 1,50,846.

BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran's Tirunelveli constituency faced 42,119 deletions, resulting in a new total of 2,63,685 voters in the draft roll.

The magnitude of these deletions is anticipated to incite political scrutiny and provoke public claims and objections in the coming weeks. As the draft roll becomes publicly accessible, political parties are expected to evaluate the effects at the constituency level and adjust their strategies as Tamil Nadu approaches a critical election period.
