Chennai, Dec 20 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP representative, A.N.S. Prasad, has expressed enthusiasm regarding the significant removal of invalid and duplicate voter entries from the draft electoral rolls during the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative, labeling it a “historic move toward restoring electoral integrity in the state.”

Prasad noted that this SIR process led to the elimination of over 97 lakh entries from the electoral rolls throughout Tamil Nadu. The revision has reduced the total electorate from 6.41 crore to 5.43 crore, representing one of the most extensive purges executed by the Election Commission in recent years.

In his statement, Prasad pointed out that the removals include 26.32 lakh deceased voters, 66.44 lakh individuals with invalid or changed addresses, and 3.39 lakh duplicate entries. He asserted that the magnitude of erroneous entries revealed in Tamil Nadu surpasses that of many other states, indicating “how entrenched irregularities were within the system.”

Prasad emphasized the importance of these deletions in critical constituencies, noting that more than 1.03 lakh invalid entries were eliminated from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s Kolathur constituency and nearly 90,000 from Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Chepauk-Triplicane constituency.

He remarked that these statistics further validate the BJP's longstanding apprehensions regarding the presence of fraudulent voters, adding that he had submitted a formal complaint to the Election Commission on September 26, 2025, identifying over 19,000 suspicious entries in Kolathur, which he believes aided the verification process.

Prasad extended his appreciation to the Central and State Election Commissions, as well as the field-level officials, for carrying out what he described as a “transparent and constitutionally mandated exercise.”

He reiterated that the SIR process is vital for fortifying democracy and eliminating opportunities for electoral malpractice. Prasad also criticized opposition parties for attempting to undermine or discredit the SIR process.

He stated that the Election Commission’s actions have now “validated the necessity of the clean-up” and showcased that concerns regarding inflated voter rolls were indeed warranted.

The BJP representative further stated that the refreshed voter lists ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections lay the groundwork for a more authentic and credible electoral process in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone in the state’s political landscape.
