Jammu, Oct 27 (NationPress) On Monday, security forces successfully intercepted a significant narcotic smuggling operation originating from Pakistan along the International Border in J&K’s Jammu district. They recovered two bags, released from a Pakistani drone, containing more than 5 kg of heroin, estimated to be worth over Rs 25 crore.
This operation was executed near the Jatinder border outpost in the R.S. Pura sector during a collaborative search mission between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the J&K Police.
The operation commenced at around 6 a.m. after a Pakistani drone was spotted hovering over the Indian territory.
During the search, officials seized two bags that contained 10 packets of heroin, weighing a total of 5.3 kg.
The recovery of such a substantial quantity of heroin has effectively disrupted a major smuggling operation from Pakistan.
Security forces and J&K police have intensified their anti-terrorism efforts, focusing on not just the terrorists but also their associates and supporters.
This revised approach aims to dismantle the entire framework of terrorism in the union territory, rather than merely targeting armed terrorists.
Moreover, drug trafficking and hawala money networks are under scrutiny, as it is believed that the funds generated from these illegal activities are ultimately funneled into sustaining terrorism.
J&K features a 740-km long line of control (LoC) and a 240-km long international border. The Army is tasked with guarding the LoC, while the BSF is responsible for the international border.
The LoC stretches across Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Kashmir Valley, as well as Poonch, Rajouri, and partially in Jammu district.
The international border runs through Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts.
Anti-terror operations are conducted in the hinterland by the security forces and J&K police, while the Army and the BSF handle anti-infiltration and anti-terror operations at the border.
