AIADMK's Palaniswami Critiques DMK at Thanjavur Election Rally
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thanjavur, April 11 (NationPress) AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami launched a fierce critique of the DMK during an election rally in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur, emphasizing his party's achievements regarding the Cauvery issue and accusing the ruling party of failing to support farmers' needs.
Speaking to a vast audience, Palaniswami referred to Thanjavur as the "golden land," highlighting its crucial agricultural role in Tamil Nadu's delta region.
He asserted that the AIADMK government had achieved a "historic and positive ruling" in the enduring Cauvery water dispute, revealing that the party had even halted Parliament for 37 days to advocate for Tamil Nadu's entitlements.
Palaniswami credited former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for launching the Thanjavur Smart City initiative and claimed that AIADMK administrations had always prioritized infrastructure and growth in the area.
Shifting his focus to the DMK, he challenged its political alliances, particularly its connection with the BJP during its time in power at the Centre.
"If the DMK collaborates with the BJP, does that not make the BJP a communal entity? Yet when we partner, they question us. Our alliance is natural and governance-driven," he stated.
He also accused the DMK of failing to deliver significant development projects to Thanjavur throughout its 15-year involvement in the Union government.
Palaniswami criticized M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister, for signing hydrocarbon project agreements in the delta region, claiming these threaten farmers' livelihoods.
He emphasized that the AIADMK had taken decisive measures to protect agricultural land, while the DMK had "disregarded" vital issues like Cauvery water management during its governance.
Additionally, Palaniswami condemned the state government's management of recent crop failures, alleging that Chief Minister Stalin neglected to meet with affected farmers.
In a pointed attack, the AIADMK leader labeled the DMK as a party synonymous with corruption, referencing the 2G spectrum scandal and asserting that law and order had declined under its administration.
Palaniswami stressed the necessity for cooperation between the Centre and the State, asserting that Tamil Nadu's progress hinges on nurturing a constructive relationship with the Union government, particularly in securing funding for Cauvery-related projects.
He called upon voters in the delta area to rally behind the AIADMK, portraying it as the sole party dedicated to protecting farmers’ welfare and promoting sustainable development.
