New Delhi, Nov 29 (NationPress) During his address at the Sardar Gatha as part of the ‘Sardar @150 Unity March’ in Vadodara on Saturday, Union Minister J.P. Nadda paid a heartfelt homage to Vallabhbhai Patel, referring to him as the “architect of modern India” and asserting that the contemporary India is deeply rooted in Patel’s efforts towards nation-building.
Nadda emphasized that while Sardar Patel is celebrated as a national icon, his most significant contribution was in the unification of the nation.
“He transformed the vision of our ancient civilization into reality within two years. Patel laid the groundwork for Viksit Bharat,” he remarked.
Recalling Patel’s personal sacrifices, Nadda mentioned that despite being a successful barrister in Ahmedabad, he renounced a comfortable life at the urging of Mahatma Gandhi.
“His entire existence was devoted to public welfare. Whether participating in a movement or a satyagraha, he always stood with the farmers,” Nadda noted, adding that Patel’s moral fortitude and administrative skills were central to the freedom struggle.
Nadda highlighted Patel’s pivotal role in integrating 562 princely states post-Independence, describing it as an extraordinary feat.
“This was no minor event. Regardless of whether it was through dialogue, persuasion, or decisive action, Patel ensured the states became part of India,” he stated.
In contrast to Patel’s approach, Nadda criticized Jawaharlal Nehru’s handling of Jammu & Kashmir, reiterating the BJP’s longstanding concerns.
He stated that Nehru’s decision regarding Kashmir led to Article 370, which became a “festering sore” for national unity. “Patel had even persuaded Maharaja Hari Singh to join India, yet Nehru imposed the hurdle of Article 370,” he asserted.
Nadda remarked that the BJP government has fulfilled Patel’s unfinished mission by abolishing Article 370.
“It was the determination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the strategy of Home Minister Amit Shah that culminated in the removal of Article 370 on August 5, 2020, genuinely integrating Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
“The India we envision today, a robust, united, Viksit Bharat, is achievable solely due to Vallabhbhai Patel,” he concluded.
