Patna, July 24 (NationPress) - The Patna Police have apprehended three individuals for their alleged involvement in the rape of a minor girl, alongside blackmailing her with a recorded video, as confirmed by an official on Thursday.
City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh stated that law enforcement became aware of the distressing situation on July 22 after the victim’s parents filed a report at the Danapur police station.
“Our investigation uncovered that four youths reportedly gang-raped the victim, filmed the assault, and subsequently used the footage to coerce her. They also extorted jewelry from her home,” Singh mentioned, emphasizing that the case was resolved within 24 hours of the initial complaint.
The Danapur Police recorded FIR number 767/25 on July 22, 2025, under Sections 70(2), 308(2), and 351(2) of the BNS, alongside pertinent sections of the POCSO Act (4/6/12).
In response to directives from the Senior Superintendent of Police, a Special Investigation Team was established under the command of City SP (West) to delve into the case.
According to Singh, the suspects befriended the victim on Instagram, lured her to a hotel, gang-raped her, recorded the incident, and later used the explicit video to extort gold jewelry, which they sold at a shop.
Based on the confessions of the three arrested youths, the police also took into custody goldsmith Arvind Kumar for purportedly purchasing the stolen jewelry.
During his interrogation, Kumar admitted to acquiring the jewelry from the accused.
“We have confiscated five mobile phones during this operation, and we are conducting raids to capture another person linked to this incident,” Singh added.
The investigative team comprised Sub-Inspector Ashish Kumar Chaudhary, Sub-Inspector Bittu Kumar Sharma, Sub-Inspector Preeti Kumari, Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandan Pratap Karna, and members of the police station’s armed force.
This incident starkly highlights the distressing reality surrounding women's safety and security in society. Crimes against women remain a prominent challenge nationwide, and there is a pressing need for effective solutions.
