The leader of Jana Sena took to the social media platform X to voice his worries about the incidents involving fishermen from Tamil Nadu, which have been reported in five different occurrences in the Bay of Bengal.

"It is troubling to hear that these fishermen from Nagapattinam district have encountered serious challenges and injuries, allegedly due to clashes at sea, affecting their means of living. Furthermore, he emphasized, "It is crucial for both the Indian and Sri Lankan governments to engage in meaningful and ongoing dialogue to tackle these issues in a spirit of mutual cooperation. I also appeal for continued initiatives to protect the safety and dignity of fishermen from both nations and to reinforce respect for maritime boundaries through collaborative understanding and goodwill."

On Friday, approximately 24 fishermen from Nagapattinam district were reportedly assaulted by Sri Lankan nationals in five separate incidents at sea. The assailants allegedly approached in multiple boats and attacked the fishermen using iron rods, knives, PVC pipes, and bamboo poles.

These events transpired off the southeastern coast of Tamil Nadu, involving fishermen from the villages of Akkaraipettai, Vellapallam, Seruthur, and Arcot Thurai.

Among the victims, six fishermen suffered head injuries, ten had internal injuries, while eight managed to escape unscathed.
