Chennai, June 29 (NationPress) The President of Tamil Nadu BJP, Nainar Nagendran, has expressed strong confidence regarding the safe return of 49 fishermen from Tamil Nadu who are currently stranded in Iran amidst escalating tensions following the recent conflict between Iran and Israel.
In an official statement, the Tamil Nadu BJP revealed that Nagendran has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, urging their immediate intervention to facilitate the urgent repatriation of the fishermen, who are said to be located in Bandar-e-Chiruiyeh and Kish Island in Iran.
The correspondence included detailed passport information for all affected individuals.
“Although a temporary ceasefire has been declared between the two nations, the situation in Iran remains unstable,” the statement added.
Families of the affected fishermen have approached the BJP’s state leadership, requesting rapid action to ensure their loved ones return home safely.
Nagendran emphasized that the BJP is maintaining ongoing communication with senior officials at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
“We are diligently following up with the MEA, and we are positive that all 49 fishermen will be returned safely,” he stated.
He also directed BJP officials in nearby coastal districts and his office staff to remain alert and continuously monitor the evolving situation. The party reassured the families that all possible measures are being implemented to guarantee the safety and timely return of the fishermen.
According to party sources, the majority of the stranded fishermen are from Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, and Cuddalore districts. They had traveled to Iran several months ago for employment in the fishing industry but found themselves caught amidst the escalating regional tensions following the outbreak of the Israel-Iran conflict in early June.
BJP leaders reported that the MEA has been made aware of the situation, and Indian officials in Tehran are already collaborating with local authorities in Iran to expedite their repatriation. The party has vowed to continue advocating for prompt action until all fishermen are safely home.
Nagendran has urged families to remain calm and patient, assuring them that the government is making every effort to bring their loved ones back.
