Pawar Calls on Fadnavis for Enhanced Security for Leaders Following Sarpanch's Murder

Mumbai, Jan 6 (NationPress) In light of the shocking murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh and the worsening law and order situation in Beed district, both ruling and opposition parties have expressed grave concerns. On Monday, NCP(SP) President Sharad Pawar appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to reassess the safety measures for leaders and public representatives who are at risk from local thugs and to provide them with necessary police protection from the state government.
Pawar highlighted in a detailed letter that, "Santosh Deshmukh, the Sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district, lost his life to a brutal attack by criminals a month ago. Despite the passage of time since this horrific event, there remains a prevailing belief among the public that Deshmukh's assailants are still free.
He emphasized, "This situation clearly indicates a serious criminal backdrop surrounding the incident."
Pawar elaborated further, stating, "The murder of Santosh Deshmukh, which has shocked the community, is not an isolated event but part of a troubling pattern of violent acts including murder, kidnapping, extortion, and fabricated charges that have plagued the Beed-Parli region in recent times. It is crucial that these incidents be thoroughly investigated."
He continued, "There is a likelihood that many of these incidents are intertwined. Given the possibility that a series of related cases may emerge during the investigation, the safety of public representatives and other esteemed individuals who engage with the community is now in question."
Pawar reiterated, "I urge you to take proactive measures to ensure there are no threats to the lives and well-being of public representatives and leaders who are advocating against this incident. A review of their security arrangements and provision of adequate police protection from the state government is essential."
According to Pawar, the brutal killing of sarpanch Deshmukh has sparked widespread protests across Maharashtra, demanding the swift capture of the fugitives and the masterminds behind the crime.
He noted that the initial protest march in Beed district aimed to communicate the severity of this incident to the Maharashtra government.
He added that the protests condemned the incident as an act of inhumanity, uniting individuals beyond caste, religion, and political affiliations.
There was a collective call for the immediate apprehension of the fugitives and the orchestrators of this crime, alongside a demand for stricter governance.
“During the protests, several legislators including Sandeep Kshirsagar, Prakash Solanke, Jitendra Aghadi, Abhimanyu Pawar, and Suresh Dhas along with Beed MP Bajrang Sonawane voiced their serious concerns regarding the murder and the current law and order crisis in Beed.
They identified the criminals involved, the mastermind behind the incident, and those responsible. The media has played a pivotal role in pushing for a swift investigation into this incident that has marred the cultural integrity of Maharashtra," concluded Pawar.
