Srinagar, December 19 (NationPress) Iltija Mufti, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has officially filed a police complaint against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar regarding the recent 'Hijab' controversy. This follows a viral video depicting the Bihar CM removing the hijab from a Muslim woman doctor.

In her complaint, Iltija Mufti accuses Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of making derogatory and unacceptable comments that undermine the dignity of women in India.

Referring to footage from a government event in Bihar, she described the act of pulling the woman’s hijab as deeply disturbing and a breach of her personal autonomy.

After submitting her complaint at the Kothi Bagh police station in Srinagar, Iltija Mufti stated that such remarks will not be tolerated and cautioned that silence should not be interpreted as acceptance.

“As Indian women, we are entitled to express ourselves, engage in public life, and exercise our rights as granted by the Constitution. No one has the right to belittle or silence us,” she emphasized.

Positioning her action as a stand for women nationwide, Iltija Mufti clarified that the FIR was filed not just for herself, but for “every woman who refuses to be disrespected.”

She asserted that public figures, especially those in constitutional roles, must adhere to the highest standards of accountability.

“This should be seen as a final warning,” she remarked, insisting that any further attempts to undermine women's dignity will face strong legal and democratic pushback.

“We will not accept this any longer,” she reiterated.

Iltija Mufti underscored that the Constitution of India guarantees equality, dignity, and freedom of expression, and no individual, regardless of their political position, is above those principles.

She stressed that careless or insensitive comments from political leaders foster a culture of disrespect and must be challenged decisively.

Additionally, the PDP leader stated that holding a political position does not grant immunity from accountability.

“Being in office does not allow anyone to insult women. The law applies equally to all,” she stated, urging institutions to take her complaint seriously and act accordingly.

The incident has sparked political reactions, with women's rights activists and opposition leaders calling for accountability and greater sensitivity from their representatives.

Numerous social media users have also supported Iltija Mufti's initiative, labeling it a vital step towards maintaining women's dignity in public discussions.

She reiterated that her struggle is not political but rather about fundamental principles.

“This is about respect, rights, and the legacy we leave for future generations. If we remain silent today, we normalize disrespect tomorrow,” she warned.

Calling for prompt legal action, Iltija Mufti urged the police to register her complaint and ensure accountability, asserting that dignity and consent must be upheld, irrespective of religion or political affiliation.
