Hyderabad, April 11 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has unveiled plans to erect a statue of the renowned social reformer Jyotirao Phule on Necklace Road in the city, as announced on Friday.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited the designated location for the statue's installation near the IMAX theatre, coinciding with Phule's birth anniversary.
He instructed officials to conduct a thorough site survey and provide a detailed report, emphasizing that the design must be crafted to prevent potential traffic issues in the future.
Accompanying the Chief Minister were Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Congress' Telangana unit President Mahesh Kumar Goud, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, and BC Association leader J. Srinivas Goud.
The decision to place the statue at a central location in the city holds particular significance, especially following a recent hunger strike led by K. Kavitha, MLC of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and President of Telangana Jagruthi, who advocated for the installation of Phule's statue in the Telangana Assembly.
Kavitha insisted that the state government expedite the statue's installation before Phule's birth anniversary.
While welcoming the government's decision to place Phule's statue on Necklace Road, the BRS leader also urged that a statue be erected within the Assembly premises.

Kavitha recalled their successful campaign for the installation of B. R. Ambedkar's statue in the Assembly when Andhra Pradesh was united.
