Tributes Paid to Savitribai Phule by CMs of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with leaders from multiple political factions, gathered to honor the remarkable social reformer Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary this past Friday.

Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy offered floral tributes at Savitribai’s portrait located in his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

In his remarks, the Chief Minister acknowledged Savitribai Phule's role as a trailblazer in women's education and a staunch advocate for equality. He mentioned that the state government has formally declared January 3 as Women Teachers' Day to honor her legacy.

Revanth Reddy reaffirmed the government's dedication to realizing the ideals championed by both Savitribai and Jyotirao Phule. He emphasized that Savitribai Phule was instrumental in fostering significant changes within Indian society.

He praised her unwavering commitment to advancing women's education and fighting for justice for marginalized communities. Her battle against gender discrimination and caste inequalities continues to inspire all. The Chief Minister stressed that the government is actively working to fulfill Savitribai Phule's vision.

He noted that innovative programs are being rolled out to empower women, targeting the transformation of one crore women into independent individuals. Additionally, skill development initiatives are being introduced to broaden employment prospects for girls across various sectors. He also highlighted the recent completion of a comprehensive household survey aimed at improving the social and political landscape for backward classes, underprivileged and marginalized groups.

Recognizing the tireless efforts of Savitribai Phule to eliminate illiteracy among women, the Chief Minister proposed that her birth anniversary be celebrated each year as Women Teachers' Day across the state, as a tribute to her immense contributions.

Similarly, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also honored Savitribai Phule, acknowledging her as a pioneer of women's education and a model teacher on her 194th birth anniversary.

CM Naidu took to ‘X’ to express that Savitribai, a fierce opponent of the caste system, patriarchy, and untouchability, serves as a role model for society. In 1848, she established the first girls' school in Pune, challenging the norms of her era. Her contributions laid the groundwork for the Telugu Desam Party's ideology of empowering women, ultimately leading to women's reservations.

Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also paid his respects to Savitribai Phule, noting her as a significant social reformer who believed that true liberation for women could only be achieved through education and was instrumental in the girls' education movement.
