Hyderabad, April 7 (NationPress) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and Telangana Jagruthi President K. Kavitha is set to embark on a day-long hunger strike in Hyderabad on Tuesday, advocating for the erection of social reformer Jyotirao Phule's statue within the Telangana Assembly.

Kavitha will commence her hunger strike at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, to emphasize the urgent need for the statue's installation.

The hunger strike is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and will run until 5 p.m.

On Monday, leaders from the Telangana Jagruthi and the United Phule Front conducted a site inspection to prepare for the protest.

Previously, Kavitha had called on Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and the state government to expedite the statue's installation before Phule's upcoming birth anniversary on April 11. With no progress made thus far, she is poised to lead the protest in tribute to Phule's legacy and his significant contributions to social justice.

United Phule Front (UPF) Convenor Bolla Shiva Shankar remarked that the state government must announce the statue's installation before Phule's birth anniversary.

He warned that if the state government does not meet their demands, the agitation under Kavitha's leadership will escalate.

"Jyotirao Phule is a representation of the self-respect of backward classes, and we will not accept any further neglect from the government," he asserted.

Shiva Shankar encouraged the public to participate in the events on Tuesday in large numbers.

He mentioned that round-table meetings have been held across the district to address the challenges faced by backward classes.

Kavitha has initiated a movement advocating for the rights of backward classes, leading 14 round-table meetings throughout Telangana.

The MLC has engaged in extensive discussions across various districts in Telangana to elevate BC concerns and has called for the execution of the Kamareddy BC Declaration made by the Congress during Assembly elections.

Furthermore, Kavitha has been a leading voice in demanding the implementation of 42 percent reservations for BCs in the state.

The state government has proposed two distinct bills in the Assembly aimed at providing 42 percent reservations for BCs in politics, employment, and education.
