New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) Union Minister Piyush Goyal expressed strong disapproval of the Opposition's actions on Friday, claiming that they obstructed the passage of a Constitution Amendment Bill associated with the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and even "celebrated" its obstruction in the Lok Sabha.

Elaborating on the events in the House, Goyal characterized them as “deeply disturbing and disgraceful”, asserting that the Opposition not only opposed the Bill but also resorted to chanting slogans after its stalling.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, Goyal noted that the Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, and other allies within the INDIA bloc united not to engage in debate but to hinder the Bill's progress.

“A deeply disturbing and disgraceful scene unfolded today in the Lok Sabha. The Congress, TMC, DMK, Samajwadi Party, and the INDI Alliance joined forces not to discuss, but to thwart the passage of a vital Constitution Amendment Bill aimed at ensuring 33 percent reservation for women. This Bill was not merely dismissed; it was alarmingly celebrated with victory cries,” he stated.

He further argued, “This behavior is not simply opposition politics; it represents a calculated betrayal of India’s women.”

Questioning the rationale behind the Opposition's actions, Goyal asked what they found worthy of celebration, suggesting that their actions were tantamount to endorsing patriarchy and undermining women's rights.

He charged that by obstructing the Bill, the Opposition had effectively denied women their rightful representation within legislative assemblies.

Goyal indicated in his message that these incidents reflect a larger trend, accusing the Opposition parties of resisting efforts toward women’s empowerment in favor of political gain.

“This is not an isolated incident; it is a recurring pattern,” he remarked.

He asserted that the Opposition's position did not align with the interests of women or the aspirations of the nation.

Goyal also warned that the repercussions of this issue would be political, asserting that women voters would not forget these developments.

“The mindset of the Opposition stands exposed — it is not aligned with the interests of women or with the dreams of a rising India. This affront to our Nari Shakti will be remembered. It will resonate across every constituency, every state, and every election. Women in India will recall who supported them and who opposed them,” Piyush Goyal shared on X.

He added that the “political cost” of the Opposition's actions would manifest not just in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, but also in various electoral contests.

“The political repercussions of this betrayal will be felt at every ballot across Bharat, not just in the 2029 elections,” he concluded.

These comments arise amidst a significant political discourse regarding the enforcement of the women’s reservation law and associated constitutional and procedural requirements.
