Hope Restored for Underprivileged Families in Rajim with PM Awas Yojana
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Rajim (Chhattisgarh), Feb 25 (NationPress) In a significant boost for the homeless and underprivileged families, the residents of Rajim, located in the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh, have been granted permanent housing through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
For many years, numerous families residing within the boundaries of Rajim Municipality endured life in kutcha (earthen) homes. Beneficiaries interviewed by IANS revealed that these makeshift shelters provided minimal protection against adverse weather conditions.
They expressed their concerns, noting that during the monsoon, rainwater would pour in incessantly through the deteriorated roofs. This persistent issue became a source of anxiety for them throughout the rainy months. Consequently, the walls became damp, leading to cracks, and in some cases, parts of the structures would collapse.
Living under such dire conditions, families experienced constant trepidation during heavy rains and storms. “Women, children, and senior citizens faced the greatest hardships, as ensuring hygiene and safety was an everyday challenge,” they remarked.
However, a transformation has occurred, as their circumstances have taken a turn for the better. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), qualified beneficiaries received financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh from the government to build enduring, concrete homes. This support has enabled families to create robust and secure residences with proper roofs, sturdy walls, and improved living conditions. The scheme has not only provided physical shelter but has also restored dignity and stability to many families that once lived in poor conditions.
Beneficiaries reflected on their experiences and conveyed their profound gratitude.
One beneficiary, Ashwani Patel, shared with IANS that previously, his family would spend restless nights during the rainy season due to water leaks. The fear of walls collapsing loomed over them, he noted. However, today, they feel secure and sheltered in their new home, Patel affirmed.
Another beneficiary, Kailash, mentioned that the assistance has brought solace and tranquility to his family. Their overall living standards have improved remarkably, he added. Jeeturam expressed gratitude towards the government, stating that the financial aid has transformed their future and instilled renewed hope.
All beneficiaries extended heartfelt thanks to the Prime Minister for launching such a welfare-driven housing initiative. They described the program as life-altering, emphasizing that it has provided them not just a house, but also security, respect, and a brighter future for their children.
