New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) The government has secured or received investments amounting to ₹18,500 crore as part of the proposals submitted under the PM MITRA Park initiative, which is designed to enhance production, create jobs, and increase exports in the textiles sector, as reported to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

To foster the development of a comprehensive, large-scale, and modern industrial infrastructure that caters to the entire value chain of the textile industry, the Centre has sanctioned the establishment of seven PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks on Greenfield/Brownfield sites, with an investment outlay of ₹4,445 crore for the period spanning from 2021-22 to 2027-28.

The government has finalized seven locations: Tamil Nadu (Virudhnagar), Telangana (Warangal), Gujarat (Navsari), Karnataka (Kalaburagi), Madhya Pradesh (Dhar), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow), and Maharashtra (Amravati) for the development of PM MITRA Parks.

Upon completion, it is anticipated that each PM MITRA Park will draw in approximately ₹10,000 crore in investments and create around 3 lakh (both direct and indirect) job opportunities, as stated by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh in a written response in Parliament.

Additional initiatives aimed at fostering growth and advancement of the textile sector include the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP), Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS), Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), SAMARTH – Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector ATUFS, Silk Samagra-2, National Handloom Development Program (NHDP), and National Handicraft Development Program (NHDP), according to the minister.

Moreover, the government is managing the National Handloom Development Programme and Raw Material Supply Scheme to support the handloom sector and ensure the welfare of handloom workers throughout the nation.

Through these schemes, financial support is extended to qualified handloom agencies/workers for raw materials, the acquisition of advanced looms and accessories, solar lighting units, construction of workspaces, product diversification and design innovation, technical and shared infrastructure, as well as marketing of handloom products in both domestic and international markets, concessional loans under the weavers’ MUDRA scheme, and various social security benefits, the minister added.
