Gandhinagar, March 2 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a visit to the Somnath Jyotirlinga temple in Gujarat on Sunday, offering heartfelt prayers to Lord Shiva.

This special puja by the Prime Minister was conducted for the well-being of the nation, shortly after the extensive Maha Kumbh celebrations concluded in Prayagaraj.

Following the Maha Kumbh 2025, PM Modi shared a blog where he expressed his intention to visit this significant Jyotirlinga shrine.

“The way 140 crore Indians turned the ‘Ekta Ka Maha Kumbh’ into a global occasion is truly wonderful. Moved by the dedication, devotion, and efforts of our people, I will soon visit Shri Somnath, the first among the 12 Jyotirlingas, to offer the fruits of these collective national efforts to Him and to pray for every Indian,” PM Modi mentioned in his blog.

It’s important to note that Somnath Mandir is a highly revered pilgrimage destination for Hindus and is recognized as the foremost among the twelve Jyotirlinga temples across the nation.

Currently, PM Modi is on a three-day trip to Gujarat. On Monday, he plans to visit Sasangir in Junagarh district to celebrate World Wildlife Day, where a jungle safari is anticipated, highlighting the last remaining habitat of Asiatic lions.

His administration’s efforts in revitalizing the tiger population at Gir have attracted global attention. Since his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, he has been committed to the conservation of Asiatic lions.

In 2007, after a poaching incident, his government launched the Greater Gir Wildlife Protection Task Force to monitor wildlife crimes and bolster conservation efforts.

The Greater Gir Conservation Model was implemented, extending lion protection beyond Gir National Park to an area of 30,000 sq. km, ensuring a safer environment. His leadership also saw the groundbreaking recruitment of female beat guards, with 111 women currently active in the Gir region.

Additionally, the establishment of the Gujarat State Lion Conservation Society (GSLCS) facilitated funding for conservation initiatives through eco-tourism revenues, and the ‘Vanya Prani Mitra’ scheme was initiated to engage local communities in wildlife protection.

The ‘Khushbu Gujarat Ki’ campaign by the Gujarat Tourism Department has successfully positioned Gir on the global tourism map, attracting over 33 lakh visitors in the last five years.
