New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation on several festivals, including Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu, being celebrated throughout the country on Tuesday.
On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, PM Modi sent his best wishes, expressing hopes for new energy and enthusiasm. In a post on social media platform X, he remarked (in Hindi), "Many best wishes to all countrymen on Makar Sankranti. May this sacred festival dedicated to the Uttarayan Sun infuse your life with fresh energy and zeal."
Alongside Makar Sankranti, the 'Uttarayan' is also being observed, an astronomical event marking the sun's transition from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere. This period is deemed auspicious in Hindu cosmology, representing the sun’s movement from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana, which holds significance in ancient Vedic beliefs.
In his greetings, PM Modi wrote on X, "Wishing everyone a splendid Uttarayan! May this festival usher in success and joy for all."
Today also marks the celebration of Magh Bihu, known as Bhogali Bihu or Maghor Bihu, which is one of Assam's most eagerly awaited festivals. It vibrantly celebrates the harvest season and signifies the transition into the new year. This festival is a time to express gratitude for a plentiful harvest and to honor the rich agricultural heritage of Assam.
Extending his warm wishes on this day, PM Modi stated, "Best Wishes on Magh Bihu! We commemorate the abundance of nature, the joy of the harvest, and the spirit of unity. May this festival enhance the essence of happiness and togetherness."
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also conveyed his sincere greetings to devotees on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Coinciding with the Maha Kumbh festival, which began on Monday with the 'Pavitra Snan,' Makar Sankranti marked the second day of celebrations. Devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to partake in the 'Amrit Snan' at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.
On X, CM Yogi shared, "This embodies our eternal culture and faith. Today, on the auspicious occasion of the grand festival of folk faith 'Makar Sankranti', I congratulate all the devotees who gained virtue by taking the first 'Amrit Snan' at the Triveni Sangam in Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj!"
