PM Modi Highlights ONDC's Role in Empowering Small Enterprises and Transforming E-Commerce

New Delhi, Jan 2 (NationPress) The government-operated Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has significantly empowered small businesses and transformed the e-commerce sector, stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

Launched in 2021, ONDC is a network comprising over 200 applications that cater to both buyers and sellers, aiming to democratize e-commerce throughout India.

The Prime Minister remarked that ONDC has been a catalyst for growth and prosperity in the nation.

“ONDC has played a crucial role in empowering small enterprises and transforming e-commerce, thus contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the country,” PM Modi mentioned in a post on the social media platform X.

This statement was made while referencing a post by Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry.

Goyal emphasized that ONDC has transformed the e-commerce landscape in India by effectively bridging the gap between buyers and sellers.

He described ONDC as having established “a strong and inclusive digital marketplace.” Goyal further noted that in the past year, the network has “not only reached multiple milestones but also empowered businesses, particularly small enterprises, by creating an equitable platform for them.”

“By closing the gap between sellers and buyers, ONDC persistently transforms the e-commerce landscape of our nation!” Goyal added.

In the three years since its inception, ONDC has facilitated over 150 million transactions across more than 200 networks.

The platform boasts over 700,000 sellers and service providers, with participants from more than 600 cities and towns.

Consumers in over 1,100 cities and towns have engaged in transactions through the network.

Additionally, more than 7,000 farmer-producer organizations are involved in the platform, representing approximately 3.5 million farmers.

About 50 percent of the beneficiaries under the MSME Trade Enablement and Marketing Initiative (MSME-TEAM), which aims to assist 500,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), are women-led businesses.
