Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Sanand (Gujarat), March 28 (NationPress) A significant Rs 244-crore drainage initiative aimed at resolving persistent monsoon waterlogging issues in Sanand will be among various industrial infrastructure projects unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Gujarat on March 31.
The projects, executed by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), amount to a total of Rs 271.20 crore and encompass essential developments in the Sanand and Naroda industrial estates located in the Ahmedabad region.
Officials have indicated that the improvements in Sanand offer a lasting solution to the flooding problems that have plagued the area during monsoon seasons, with the industrial estate on track to achieve a status of “zero waterlogging.”
The Sanand Industrial Estate, which spans roughly 2,056 hectares, has established itself as a center for advanced sectors such as semiconductors, automobiles, and pharmaceuticals, housing over 1,150 operational units.
To tackle water accumulation, two major drainage projects have been successfully completed.
As part of the east and west drain initiatives, a total of 18.71 km of RCC stormwater drain has been constructed along both sides of the estate to effectively channel both internal and upstream water.
Moreover, an additional 18.35 km drainage network has been established near the main entry points along the Sanand–Viramgam highway.
Officials remarked, “The completion of the RCC storm water drain project at a cost of Rs 244 crore has successfully addressed the issue of rainwater accumulation in Sanand. With these projects, the Sanand industrial estate will achieve a status of ‘zero water logging.’”
In Naroda, one of Gujarat’s oldest industrial estates founded in 1963, infrastructure enhancements have been finalized at a cost of Rs 27.20 crore under the Assistance for Industrial Infrastructure (A.I.I.) scheme.
The upgrades feature the reinforcement and widening of internal roads, the construction of stormwater drains, lining of natural channels, and the development of paved surfaces covering 1.19 lakh square meters for footpaths and parking.
Additionally, new street lighting, high-mast lights, security cabins, and toilet blocks have been installed.
Officials stated, “The modernization of the Naroda industrial estate will enhance infrastructure facilities and promote industrial growth.”
The projects are expected to directly benefit numerous small and large industrial units in both estates.
With improved drainage systems, upgraded roads, and enhanced infrastructure, the initiatives are anticipated to facilitate smoother goods movement and enhance overall operational efficiency, thereby increasing Gujarat's appeal to global investors.
The inauguration will take place with the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, state cabinet members, and industry representatives.
