Chennai, July 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu on Saturday evening for a two-day visit, emphasizing a major drive for infrastructure and development projects throughout the state.
Following his trip to the Maldives, Prime Minister Modi touched down at Tuticorin Airport at 7:50 p.m. aboard a special aircraft. He was welcomed at the airport by Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Governor R.N. Ravi, and Union Ministers L. Murugan and Ram Mohan Naidu, among others.
Immediately upon his arrival, the Prime Minister inaugurated the newly constructed terminal building of Tuticorin Airport, which was developed at a cost of Rs 452 crore. Subsequently, he laid the groundwork and inaugurated several development initiatives across Tamil Nadu, collectively valued at Rs 4,900 crore. These projects encompass crucial sectors such as energy, transportation, and logistics.
Among the significant initiatives revealed were infrastructure projects worth Rs 550 crore in Tuticorin, power transmission efforts linked to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, electrification of the Madurai–Bodinayakkanur railway line, and power distribution systems for Kudankulam Units 3 and 4. Additional highlights include the doubling of the railway line between Aralvaimozhi and Nagercoil, doubling the Nellai-Melapalayam railway section valued at Rs 283 crore, and a four-lane road development initiative on the Sethiyathoppu-Cholapuram section. The inauguration of the third northern cargo logistics terminal at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin, amounting to Rs 285 crore, was also part of the plans, alongside railway projects worth Rs 1,030 crore.
This visit underscores the Centre's commitment to enhancing connectivity, energy infrastructure, and economic advancement in southern Tamil Nadu.
The Prime Minister is set to engage in further activities on Sunday, including the millennium celebration of the maritime expedition of the Chola emperor, Rajendra Chola I, at Gangaikonda Cholapuram.
