Patna, Sep 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana virtually, transferring Rs 10,000 to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar in the initial phase of the initiative.

A total of Rs 7,500 crore was directly disbursed to the beneficiaries.

The launch event took place in Patna, with PM Modi joining from Delhi while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha participated from the state capital.

This scheme, originally unveiled by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aims to empower women to become Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) by enhancing self-employment and livelihood prospects. According to Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, out of 3.06 crore applications, 75 lakh women were chosen as beneficiaries in this first phase.

Expressing gratitude to PM Modi for his involvement, CM Nitish Kumar stated, “Today, the Prime Minister will deposit Rs 10,000 into the accounts of 75 lakh beneficiaries in Bihar. Those who excel in their businesses will eventually receive assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh.

Highlighting the state government’s focus on women, the CM mentioned the 50 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions and the rise of over one crore Jeevika Didis in approximately 11 lakh self-help groups, which have significantly transformed rural livelihoods.

He attributed Bihar’s development since 2005 to the NDA government, contrasting it with the situation prior to that.

In a direct comment on RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar noted that after removing him from the CM chair after seven years, “he brought his wife to lead.”

During interactions with several beneficiaries, PM Modi commended this initiative as a significant advancement by the Nitish Kumar government, asserting that such a large-scale transfer was feasible due to reforms like the Jan Dhan Yojana, which has enabled over 30 crore bank accounts to be opened in the last decade.

“In the past, a former Prime Minister had said that when the Centre sent Rs 100, nearly 85 percent was lost before it reached the people. Today, every rupee reaches the beneficiaries directly,” PM Modi emphasized.

This extensive rollout occurs amidst increased political activity in Bihar, gearing up for the 2025 Assembly elections, with the NDA aiming to highlight its development achievements and welfare initiatives, particularly targeting women voters who played a crucial role in past elections.
