Chennai, Nov 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the South India Natural Farming Summit 2025 at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore on Wednesday. Upon his arrival, he received a warm welcome from the South India Organic Farmers Federation.
The exhibition highlighted organic products, innovations in natural farming, and exemplary practices. The Prime Minister toured various stalls, engaging with farmers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
During the event, farmers eagerly took photos with him, with prominent farmer leader P.R. Pandian among those present. After officially launching the summit, PM Modi underscored India's commitment to sustainable agriculture.
He also announced the 21st installment of the ‘PM-KISAN’ scheme, providing a substantial ₹18,000 crore to support 9 crore farmers nationwide.
Each farmer benefits from an annual financial aid of ₹6,000. In Tamil Nadu, 21.8 lakh farmers have received assistance, including 44,837 from Coimbatore district.
Farmers honored the Prime Minister with a traditional garland and gifted a symbolic kaalavandi (bullock cart) memento. The Prime Minister also gave awards to those excelling in natural farming and interacted with scientists and skilled practitioners.
PM Modi arrived from Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. At the Coimbatore International Airport, he was welcomed by Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) President G.K. Vasan, State BJP President Nainar Nagenthran, Union Minister L. Murugan, and other senior officials.
Minister Swaminathan represented the Tamil Nadu government and welcomed the Prime Minister. Following his arrival, PM Modi held a roadshow from the airport to the CODISSIA grounds, where BJP workers and thousands of locals gathered to greet him.
For the event, a comprehensive security protocol was implemented, featuring a five-tier protection system around the CODISSIA complex, overseen by the Special Protection Group (SPG), with over 3,000 police personnel deployed in the vicinity.
Drone operations were prohibited, and heightened surveillance was conducted along Coimbatore-Avinashi Road.
The summit attracted thousands of organic farmers from across South India, marking one of the largest gatherings in the region dedicated to natural and sustainable agricultural practices.
