New Delhi, Sep 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow on Tuesday over the loss of senior BJP figure Vijay Kumar Malhotra, referring to him as an exceptional leader who had a profound grasp of the concerns of the populace.
Malhotra, who was born in December 1931 in Lahore, sadly passed away early Tuesday morning at AIIMS New Delhi, at the remarkable age of 93.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi remarked, "Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji was an exemplary leader with a thorough understanding of the issues faced by the people. He played a crucial role in fortifying our party in Delhi and is fondly remembered for his impactful Parliamentary contributions. I am deeply saddened by his demise and extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and followers. Om Shanti."
Malhotra held the position of MP five times and was an MLA twice from Delhi. He presided over the Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh from 1972 to 1975 and led BJP Delhi twice, from 1977 to 1980 and again from 1980 to 1984.
As per the Delhi BJP, Malhotra had a dynamic political career, alongside Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana, and is credited with stabilizing the BJP’s presence in Delhi for many years.
His most notable political achievement is viewed as his victory over former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by a significant margin in the 1999 Indian general elections, according to Malhotra's profile on the Delhi BJP website.
In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he was the sole BJP candidate to secure a seat in Delhi.
The party further acknowledged that Malhotra's contributions to Delhi over the past 45 years have established him as one of the most senior BJP leaders in the capital.
Earlier in the day, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also expressed his condolences regarding the passing of the esteemed party leader.
“Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra’s life exemplified simplicity and unwavering commitment to public service. He played a significant role in promoting the RSS ideology in Delhi since the Jan Sangh period. His legacy will continue to motivate all of us, BJP workers,” he stated.
