According to the official statement from PMO India on X, "An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be allocated to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured individuals will receive Rs. 50,000."
The Prime Minister expressed his sorrow regarding the incident, stating, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. My condolences to those mourning the loss of their loved ones. Wishing a swift recovery to the injured."
At least 11 individuals tragically lost their lives in Mandsaur district after a van filled with devotees fell into an open well on Sunday, near the Budha-Takarwat crossing in the Kachariya Chowpati village, under the jurisdiction of Narayangarh police station.
Additionally, four people, including two young children, suffered serious injuries in the accident.
Authorities reported that the vehicle lost control after colliding with a motorcycle, leading it to plunge into a 15-foot-deep well.
Tragically, Manohar Singh, a local hero attempting to rescue the van's occupants, lost his life due to toxic gas emissions from the vehicle's LPG system, as confirmed by police.
Anil Raghuvanshi, the in-charge of Narayangarh police station, informed IANS: "As of now, 11 fatalities have been confirmed in this incident, including rescuer Manohar Singh and biker Gobar Singh, who was hit by the van. Efforts to locate others are ongoing."
Manohar Singh hailed from Sanjit village, while Gobar Singh was from Sitamau in the district.
According to police reports, the reliance on heavy machinery and cranes during the rescue efforts contributed to the suffocation of several passengers trapped inside the van.
Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, who visited the accident site, shared on his X account: "Upon learning of the heartbreaking incident where a vehicle fell into a well in Kachariya Chowpati, I promptly arrived at the scene to oversee the situation and directed the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to accelerate the rescue operations."
