New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his profound sadness over the tragic bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in numerous fatalities. He announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of each victim.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) utilized the social media platform X to express their condolences. “I am deeply pained by the loss of lives in the bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. My heartfelt condolences go out to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the rapid recovery of the injured,” Modi stated.
“An ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be allocated to the next of kin of each victim of this heartbreaking incident. Those injured will receive Rs. 50,000,” the PMO India further added.
Reports indicate that at least 14 individuals lost their lives, and 33 were injured in this unfortunate road accident in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Prem Singh, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur, 14 fatalities have been confirmed, while 33 others sustained injuries from the bus accident that occurred while traveling from Ramnagar to Udhampur town.
Some of the injured passengers have been transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Udhampur, while others are receiving care in Ramnagar.
“Currently, our primary concern is to rescue the injured and provide them with all necessary medical support,” Singh remarked.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, with reports indicating that the bus overturned, and more information is awaited.
Earlier in the day, Union Minister of State (MoS) PMO and Lok Sabha member from the Kathua-Udhampur constituency, Dr. Jitendra Singh, mentioned on X, “I have just spoken with DC Udhampur, Sh. Minga Sherpa, after hearing about the tragic road accident involving a public transport bus from Ramnagar to Udhampur.”
He stated that the rescue operations were initiated immediately. “Heavy casualties are anticipated. We are providing all possible support, and the injured will be transferred for medical assistance. Arrangements are being made to airlift those seriously injured,” he added.
“I remain in constant communication with the local administration and our team of local workers led by Rajinder Sharma.
J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha expressed, “The tragic road accident in Udhampur is heart-wrenching. I extend my deepest condolences to the grieving families. May God provide them with strength. I am praying for the swift recovery of the injured and have instructed the district administration, police, SDRF, and health department to extend every possible assistance to the victims.”
The office of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated, “The Chief Minister has shown profound sorrow over the tragic bus accident involving passengers traveling from Ramnagar to Udhampur. He has offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and is praying for the quick recovery of the injured. The Chief Minister assured that the government is firmly supporting the victims and their families during this difficult time and that all necessary assistance is being provided.”
