PM Modi Expresses Sympathy Over Bathinda Bus Tragedy, Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex-Gratia for Victims' Families

New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of all eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a bus accident in Bathinda, Punjab.

He also declared a financial compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for each family member of the deceased victims, along with an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 for those who sustained injuries in the incident.

"I am saddened by the loss of lives in the bus accident in Bathinda, Punjab. My condolences go out to those mourning their loved ones. I wish for a swift recovery for the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF will be granted to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured will receive Rs 50,000," the Prime Minister's Office conveyed on Friday via X.

On Friday, eight individuals, including a two-year-old girl, lost their lives when a speeding bus crashed after the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to officials.

Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda, Showkat Ahmad Parray, stated that out of the eight deceased, five have been identified, while three remain unidentified.

"It is unfortunate that eight individuals have passed away, including a two-year-old girl—five of whom were at Talwandi hospital, while the other three succumbed at the civil hospital in Bathinda. Out of eight individuals, five have been identified, and three are yet to be identified. The bus was traveling at a high speed, and the driver lost control... All possible assistance from the government will be provided to the families," Parray further stated.

Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal reported that 46 passengers were rescued.

"A total of 46 passengers have been rescued. The confirmed number of deaths stands at eight as of now. The health conditions of the remaining individuals are stable," she said.

President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her deepest condolences to the families of the deceased from the Bathinda bus accident.

"I am profoundly saddened by the tragic news of multiple fatalities in the bus accident in Bathinda, Punjab. I extend my deepest condolences to all bereaved families and pray for the rapid recovery of those injured in this incident," President Murmu posted on X.

Aam Aadmi Party national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his sorrow over the Bathinda bus accident.

"The bus accident in Bathinda is extremely unfortunate. My condolences to all families who lost their loved ones in this tragedy. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured and their return home. I have communicated with Punjab CM Mann to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families at the earliest," he posted on X.
