New Delhi, Aug 3 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt condolences to the families mourning the tragic loss of lives in the recent accident in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. He announced an ex gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 in assistance for those injured.
Officials confirmed that eleven individuals tragically lost their lives, with several others sustaining injuries when a vehicle carrying at least fourteen people fell into the Saryu canal on Sunday.
In a statement shared on X, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) quoted PM Modi saying, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the accident in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. My condolences go out to those who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate incident. I wish for the swift recovery of the injured."
Furthermore, the PMO added, "The next of kin of each deceased will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF, while the injured will be provided Rs 50,000."
Earlier that day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow on X, stating, "The loss of life in the tragic accident in Gonda is heart-wrenching. My thoughts are with the grieving families."
He further announced that instructions had been given to provide Rs 5 lakh to the families affected by this incident and urged district administration officials to ensure the injured receive immediate medical attention.
"I pray to Lord Shri Ram that the souls of the departed find peace, that the bereaved families have the strength to cope with this immense sorrow, and that the injured recover quickly. Om Shanti!" wrote the Chief Minister.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal stated, "Eleven individuals traveling in a Bolero vehicle from Sihagaon of Motiganj police station to offer prayers at the Prithvi Nath temple of Khargupur died when the vehicle plunged into the canal."
SP Jaiswal also reported that four individuals were rescued from the canal with minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the District Hospital.
