In a social media post, his office stated, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in an incident at Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families in this challenging time. I am praying for the swift recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while the injured will receive Rs. 50,000: PM.”
The victims of this tragedy, primarily children and teenagers, included Arti (18), Dinesh (13), Urmila (16), Sharmila (15), Ganesh (20), Kiran (16), Patlibai (25), Revsingh (13), Ayush (9), and Sangita (16).
Authorities have not yet confirmed another victim. Among the injured, three individuals are reported to be in critical condition at Khandwa district hospital.
According to police reports, at least twenty additional individuals are feared dead. This incident took place on October 2 in Jamli village, Khandwa district, when a tractor-trolley carrying over 30 villagers—predominantly women and children—fell into a deep lake while heading to immerse a Durga idol.
The makeshift bridge collapsed under the weight of the vehicle around 5 PM, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 individuals, including minors.
