Patna, Feb 24 (NationPress) During his visit to Bhagalpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the dedication of Union Animal Husbandry Minister and Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh, commonly known as Lalan Singh, for his pivotal role in enhancing the dairy industry and executing significant projects in Bihar.

PM Modi underscored the significance of animal husbandry in elevating the financial status of landless and small-scale farmers.

He pointed out that through dairy and livestock farming, 1.25 crore women in villages have become "Lakhpati Didis," which includes numerous Jeevika Didis from Bihar.

"Currently, India stands as the world's premier producer of milk. Over the past ten years, milk production has escalated from 14 crore tonnes to 24 crore tonnes. Bihar has significantly contributed to this progress," stated PM Modi.

The Cooperative Milk Union in Bihar now procures 30 lakh litres of milk every day, with more than Rs 3,000 crore directly benefiting the accounts of dairy farmers on an annual basis.

PM Modi acknowledged Lalan Singh's contributions to the dairy industry, particularly two major initiatives in Bihar: the Centre of Excellence in Motihari, aimed at breeding top-quality cows to enhance dairy productivity, and the milk plant in Barauni, which is anticipated to benefit three lakh individuals in the area.

"Thanks to Lalan Singh's relentless efforts, India’s dairy sector is advancing swiftly, with Bihar being an essential contributor to this achievement," remarked the PM.

PM Modi also addressed the fishing community, criticizing past administrations for neglecting their well-being.

He noted that under the NDA government, fishermen now have access to Kisan Credit Cards, which has greatly benefited Bihar’s fishing sector.

Reiterating Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s claims, PM Modi stated that Bihar has attained self-sufficiency in fish production.

"In 2013, during my electoral visit to Bihar, I was astonished to find that despite having rich water resources, fish production was minimal. Today, Bihar ranks among the top five fish-producing states in India, signifying a remarkable change," he expressed.

He further lauded the Namami Gange initiative, showcasing its success in cleansing the Ganges River, which has aided in preserving the Gangetic dolphins—a crucial symbol of Bhagalpur.
