New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday had to amend his statement after incorrectly alleging inconsistencies in the readouts shared by the Indian government and the United States regarding the recent conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.
Ramesh acknowledged the error, stating on X, "I never claimed to be non-biological. An inadvertent error was made and immediately rectified."
In response, the BJP capitalized on the blunder, launching a fierce assault on the Congress party and its senior figures.
It is significant to mention that shortly after Jairam Ramesh raised questions about the recent call between PM Modi and President Trump, asserting discrepancies in the readouts provided, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya dismissed Ramesh's allegations as a "blatant lie," claiming the Congress leader was referencing an outdated statement from January 2025.
"Jairam Ramesh is a congenital liar — much like Rahul Gandhi. He is now spreading yet another falsehood, alleging that Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s statement does not align with the U.S. readout — all while dramatically waving his phone around," Malviya wrote on X.
He added that there had been no official U.S. release regarding the latest Modi-Trump discussion and accused the Congress of distorting facts to undermine India's foreign policy.
"The Congress and its troll army simply cannot accept that Prime Minister Modi clearly conveyed to President Trump — India neither requires nor accepts any third-party mediation," he asserted.
Earlier, in his post, Jairam Ramesh also mentioned that, "President Trump himself has claimed 14 times that the India-Pakistan war was halted due to his mediation and that he discussed trade between the two nations. Prime Minister Modi did not respond to this claim for 37 days."
He further noted that U.S. Central Command Chief General Michael Kurilla recently referred to Pakistan as a "special and phenomenal partner" in counter-terrorism, while Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir received a private lunch invitation from President Trump, just days after Munir’s communal remarks allegedly linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
"This is a major setback for India's Foreign Policy," he commented.
Reiterating the call for a comprehensive meeting to update the nation, the Congress leader stated, "The Indian side, through our Foreign Secretary, has already released a statement. Why does PM Modi himself not express the same in the all-party meeting that the Foreign Secretary has discussed in the Prime Minister's statement? We wanted PM Modi to say the same in the all-party meeting."
"If not a special session, why not an all-party meeting? The PM should convene an all-party meeting to inform the leaders," he emphasized.
