Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) The government is set to unveil the 22nd installment of its flagship farmer assistance program, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan), on Friday, as announced by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the installment from Guwahati, Assam, facilitating the direct transfer of over Rs 18,640 crore into the bank accounts of more than 9.32 crore farmer families nationwide through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Detailing this initiative, Chouhan highlighted that it underscores the government's dedication to farmers and its efforts to honor the nation’s “annadatas”.
Since the scheme's inception in February 2019, the central government has disbursed over Rs 4.09 lakh crore directly to farmers' bank accounts.
With this latest installment, the total disbursed amount will surpass Rs 4.27 lakh crore.
The scheme, initiated under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, has established a robust foundation for significant and sustained changes in the agriculture sector by providing direct financial support to small and marginal farmers.
Eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments, deposited directly into their bank accounts.
Chouhan noted that this upcoming installment will also benefit over 2.15 crore women farmers.
This timely financial support aids farmers in covering agricultural costs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other necessary farming inputs.
Additionally, it helps address household needs like education and healthcare.
Chouhan emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to economically empower women farmers and enhance the financial stability of rural households through this scheme.
He also mentioned that various independent studies indicate that the PM-Kisan initiative has bolstered the rural economy by lessening farmers’ reliance on loans and promoting increased investment in agriculture.
