Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Jan 16 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Assam on January 17 and 18 to engage in significant cultural and developmental initiatives, as confirmed by officials on Friday.
On Saturday evening, around 6 p.m., the Prime Minister is scheduled to be part of a grand traditional Bodo cultural event at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.
The evening's centerpiece will be 'Bagurumba Dohou 2026', a momentous cultural celebration showcasing the vibrant heritage of the Bodo community.
More than 10,000 performers from the Bodo community will present the Bagurumba dance in a unified display.
Artistes from 81 Assembly constituencies across 23 districts of Assam are anticipated to participate, making this one of the largest cultural showcases in the state.
Bagurumba, a classic folk dance of the Bodo people, draws deep inspiration from nature.
Typically performed by young women, with male musicians accompanying them, this dance symbolizes blooming flora and the harmony between humanity and nature.
Its soft, flowing movements mimic butterflies, birds, leaves, and flowers, holding profound cultural significance as it represents peace, fertility, joy, and collective unity.
This dance is closely linked to festivities such as Bwisagu, the Bodo New Year, and Domasi.
On Sunday at approximately 11 a.m., the Prime Minister will travel to Kaliabor to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a significant infrastructure endeavor valued at over ₹6,950 crore.
This 86-km project, officially known as the four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh segment of NH-715, is designed as an environmentally-conscious National Highway initiative.
It features a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor traversing Kaziranga National Park, along with 21 km of bypasses and 30 km of existing highway widening.
The project aims to enhance connectivity across Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts while promoting wildlife movement and mitigating human-animal conflicts.
During this event, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate two new Amrit Bharat Express trains — the Guwahati (Kamakhya) – Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) services, thereby bolstering rail connectivity between Northeast India and northern regions.
