Chennai, Sep 3 (NationPress) The ongoing conflict within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has escalated as the party’s Disciplinary Action Committee has opted to deliver a second showcause notice to its president and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, the son of the party's founder, S. Ramadoss.
Speaking to the media at his residence in Thailapuram, S. Ramadoss stated that the Administrative Committee has reached a unanimous decision to request an explanation from Anbumani regarding what they describe as “anti-party activities.”
The second notice will be issued by the party’s general secretary, and Anbumani is expected to respond by September 10.
“To date, no response has been provided for the initial notice. Should there be no reply this time, both the Disciplinary Action Committee and the Administrative Committee will discuss the matter and the party will take appropriate action,” he emphasized.
The tension between father and son has been intensifying over recent months, primarily due to Anbumani's continued presidency despite Dr. Ramadoss's public objections.
Dr. Ramadoss has voiced his dissatisfaction regarding what he perceives as unilateral decisions made by his son, insisting that the presidency should not remain with Anbumani.
Despite this, Anbumani has maintained his position and asserted control over party matters, further exacerbating the rift.
This discord has led to increased friction within the organization, with the senior Ramadoss accusing his son of sidelining party committees and neglecting collective decision-making.
Insiders within the party indicate that aside from the presidency dispute, Anbumani’s approach—characterized by independent declarations and reported outreach to other political factions—has contributed to the growing tensions.
The leadership, under Ramadoss, views these actions as violations of party discipline.
The PMK, which has a robust presence in northern Tamil Nadu, has historically played a pivotal role in state politics through electoral partnerships.
Political analysts suggest that any disciplinary measures against Anbumani could have significant repercussions for the party's future as the 2026 Assembly elections draw near.
As it stands, the spotlight is on September 10, the deadline for Anbumani to decide whether to provide his explanation or face formal disciplinary actions from the party founded by his own father.
