Hyderabad, Sep 3 (NationPress) Renowned actor Nagarjuna Akkineni along with his son and fellow actor Naga Chaitanya appeared at a city court on Wednesday, where they recorded their statements concerning a criminal defamation case they initiated against Telangana minister Konda Surekha.
The duo attended the Nampally Metropolitan Magistrate Court, providing their statements to the presiding judge.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, Nagarjuna mentioned that the issue is now in the hands of the court, which will render a decision.
Last year, on October 2, Minister Konda Surekha made certain remarks regarding the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
She implicated K. T. Rama Rao, the working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), in the divorce matter.
Samantha later clarified that her divorce was amicable and consensual, urging the minister to respect her privacy and not trivialize her personal experiences.
Following this, Konda Surekha stated on X that she was retracting her earlier comments.
The minister clarified that her comments were not intended to offend but to challenge a leader’s disrespect towards women.
Nevertheless, Nagarjuna filed a petition against the minister under section 356 of BNS.
He asserted that the minister’s statements tarnished the dignity and reputation of his family. Nagarjuna expressed that the minister had made disparaging remarks about his family, particularly concerning his son’s divorce.
He emphasized that Konda Surekha’s comments have damaged his family’s long-standing reputation, which has been built over decades in both the film industry and community service.
In October of the previous year, the court recorded statements from witnesses Yarlagadda Supriya and Venkateshwar Metla in this case.
Although Rama Rao, a BRS leader, issued a legal notice demanding an apology from the minister, she maintained her stance regarding her remarks about him.
In light of this, Rama Rao also commenced defamation proceedings against the minister.
