This rapid response from law enforcement has captured widespread attention in the area.
As per police sources, on the evening of December 25, Hathua Station House Officer (SHO) Shoaib Alam received credible intelligence indicating that the infamous liquor mafia Vikas Kumar, the son of Shivnath Sah and a resident of Attwa Durg village, was planning a serious criminal operation at his home with several associates.
The intelligence also indicated that the suspect was armed with illegal firearms and ammunition.
Vikas Kumar has been implicated in numerous liquor smuggling cases and was out on bail at the time of the incident. Acting on this intelligence, senior officials promptly ordered an immediate response.
A specialized police unit was formed under the leadership of Inspector and SHO Shoaib Alam.
Despite challenging weather conditions, including dense fog and limited visibility, the police conducted a late-night raid in Attwa Durg.
During the operation, Vikas Kumar was apprehended on-site, while his accomplices managed to escape, taking advantage of the adverse weather.
The police recovered a loaded country-made pistol, a live cartridge, and another country-made pistol without a magazine from the scene.
Hathua Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anand Mohan Gupta provided details of the operation, mentioning that they had received credible information about a gathering of criminals at the liquor smuggler's residence.
“Swift action by the police led to the successful apprehension of the accused along with the recovery of illegal arms,” Gupta stated.
The SDPO further noted that Vikas Kumar is a well-known liquor smuggler, with multiple cases filed against him in both Gopalganj and the neighboring Siwan district.
He has faced imprisonment multiple times for liquor-related offenses, Gupta added.
The police have initiated ongoing raids to capture the absconding associates involved in this conspiracy.
Officials emphasized that timely police action averted a potentially serious crime that could have endangered public safety.
Currently, the law-and-order situation in the area remains stable, although police are maintaining heightened vigilance.
This operation is being regarded as a significant victory for the Gopalganj police, highlighting their proactive stance on crime prevention.
